Portable Aircon or Air Cooler: Which Do You Need?
Two different machines. Choose wrong and the room stays hot.

Best for enclosed or partitioned spaces
Actively reduces air temperature. Requires a route to exhaust hot air outside the cooled area.
- · Temporary event rooms
- · Enclosed exhibition booths
- · Meeting rooms & offices
- · Back-of-house prep areas
Needs an exhaust duct indoors. With nowhere to send the hot air, it will not cool the room.

Best for open and semi-open spaces
High-volume directed airflow and localised cooling. Not a replacement for air-conditioning in a fully enclosed room.
- · Tentage and marquees
- · Warehouses & loading areas
- · Void decks
- · Covered outdoor functions
Needs water added and works by evaporation — moves air in open areas rather than sealing a room to a set temperature.
Built for Outdoor Pop-Ups and Activations
A glass box on a mall forecourt has no ceiling vents and full sun on three sides. That is where portable cooling earns its keep.

Pop-up stores & glass boxes
Glass walls, full sun, no ceiling vents. You provide an opening for the exhaust — it can sit at the bottom of a wall, the duct is flexible.

Night markets & evening activations
Lights, bodies and no breeze after sundown. The unit sits back against the wall, out of the display.

Outdoor F&B & food festivals
Prep cabins and staff zones that get hot fast, with hot equipment already in the room.

Fits where space is money
345 × 315 mm — about 0.11 m² of floor, roughly a bar stool. It sits in the corner, not in the display.

We deliver and position it
Our own crew brings it in, places it and routes the duct out of sight.

Tested before you open
Run-tested on site with the doors still shut, so the first customer walks into a cold room.
Also cooled by AANRS: marquees and tentage, wedding and corporate dinners, temporary event rooms, office air-conditioning breakdowns, warehouses, packing and work zones, showflats and site offices.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between portable aircon and a commercial air cooler?
A portable air conditioner actively lowers air temperature and must exhaust hot air out of the cooled space through a duct. A commercial air cooler moves a high volume of air and cools by evaporation, needs water added, and requires no ducting. Air conditioners suit enclosed rooms; air coolers suit open and semi-open areas such as tentage.
Is portable aircon suitable for an exhibition booth?
Yes, if the booth is enclosed or partitioned and there is a route to exhaust hot air outside the booth. For open-fronted booths in an already air-conditioned hall, a commercial air cooler or additional airflow is usually the more practical choice.
Can portable aircon be used inside a marquee or tent?
A marquee is rarely sealed enough for a portable air conditioner to hold a temperature, and the exhaust still has to go somewhere. For marquees and tentage AANRS normally recommends commercial air coolers for directed airflow, or a combination where part of the structure is enclosed.
Where does the portable aircon exhaust hose go?
The exhaust duct must discharge outside the space being cooled — through a window, door, vent, ceiling void or partition opening. Indoors, a discharge pipe must be installed. If hot air is released back into the same room, the room will not get cooler.
How does the exhaust work in a glass-walled pop-up store?
The client or their contractor provides an opening for the exhaust duct in one of the solid panels. It does not need to be high up — the duct is flexible, so an opening near the bottom of the wall at floor level works, which keeps it out of sight of customers. The unit itself is positioned against a solid wall with the grille facing into the room.
How many portable aircon units will my event need?
It depends on floor area, ceiling height, how enclosed the space is, expected attendance, heat-generating equipment and available power. AANRS reviews these details and recommends the type and quantity, rather than applying a fixed unit-per-square-metre rule.
What electrical supply is required?
AANRS portable cooling units run on a standard 13 amp UK socket at 220–240V. The 3 HP portable air conditioner draws about 2200 watts (10.0 amps) when running, the 2 HP about 1700 watts (7.9 amps), and the commercial air cooler about 500 watts. Available power and circuit sharing should be confirmed before the event.
Does AANRS handle delivery, installation and collection?
Yes. Our own team delivers, positions, connects and tests the equipment at the venue, and returns to collect it after the event or rental period.
Why are event cooling prices quoted individually?
Every event differs in space size and enclosure, attendance, operating hours, heat load, electrical supply, exhaust arrangements, venue access and delivery schedule. AANRS reviews these before recommending equipment type, quantity and logistics, which avoids underpowered equipment and unexpected venue complications. Prices are therefore quoted per event rather than published.
Can the equipment be delivered on the setup day?
Yes. Event quotations can be structured around the full deployment period, including setup, live event days and collection. Provide the complete schedule so AANRS can prepare the appropriate rental and logistics arrangement.
Can I rent fridges and freezers together with portable cooling equipment?
Yes, and this is the most common arrangement. Portable cooling can be supplied on the same order as display chillers, drink chillers, chest and glass-chest freezers, gelato freezers and upright kitchen units, coordinated as one delivery.
Can portable aircon be used for an office aircon breakdown?
Yes. Short-term portable cooling is commonly used to keep an office or commercial space workable while permanent air-conditioning is repaired or replaced, provided there is a suitable exhaust route.
What venue information should I provide before requesting a quotation?
Setup and collection dates and times, venue and loading access, whether the space is indoor, outdoor or semi-open, floor area and ceiling height, expected attendance, existing air-conditioning, available electrical supply, whether an exhaust route exists, any heat-generating equipment, and any refrigeration you also need.
Tell us the venue. We'll tell you what it needs.
Send the space, dates and crowd size. Add any fridges or freezers to the same enquiry and it all arrives together.
